African swine fever
1. Two outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs have occurred in South Africa.
On December 1, South Africa reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs in Gauteng Province and another region, resulting in the infection and death of 62 pigs.
2. Two Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Moldova
On December 1 and 3, Moldova reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in two locations, including the Ialoveni District, resulting in the infection and death of four wild pigs.
3. Eleven Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Estonia
On December 2 and 4, Estonia reported 11 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in four locations, including Jõgeva County, resulting in the infection and death of 13 wild pigs.
4. Twenty-two African swine fever outbreaks in wild pigs reported in Hungary
On December 3 and 4, Hungary reported 22 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs across four regions, including Pest County, resulting in the infection and death of 25 wild pigs.
5. Nineteen Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Bulgaria
On December 3, Bulgaria reported 19 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs across seven regions, including Targovishte Province, resulting in the infection and death of 22 wild pigs.
6. Three Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Spain
On December 3 and 5, Spain reported three outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, resulting in the infection and death of 11 wild boar.
7. Eleven African Swine Fever Outbreaks in Wild Boars Reported in Italy
On December 5, Italy reported 11 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar in two regions, including the Liguria Region, resulting in the infection and death of 11 wild boar.
8. Seventy-one African swine fever outbreaks in wild pigs reported in Poland
On December 5, Poland reported 71 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars across seven regions, including Podlaskie Province, resulting in the infection and death of 124 wild boars.
9. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs has been reported in Ukraine.
On December 5, Ukraine reported an outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, resulting in the death of one infected wild pig.
10. Romania Reports 17 Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars and 20 in Domestic Pigs
On December 5, Romania reported 17 cases of African swine fever in wild pigs and 20 cases in domestic pigs across five counties, including Călărași County. A total of 27 wild pigs were infected and died, 9,243 domestic pigs were infected, 147 died, and 5,766 were culled.
11. Eighteen Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Domestic Pigs Reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina
On December 5, Bosnia and Herzegovina reported 18 outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs in the Republika Srpska, with 20 infected pigs, 12 deaths, and 70 pigs culled.
Avian influenza
1. Nine wild bird and 25 domestic poultry outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in the United States.
On December 1, the United States reported nine outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 25 outbreaks in poultry across ten locations, including New Hampshire. A total of 44 wild and free-range poultry were infected and died, 142 were culled, 2,887 poultry were infected and died, and 465,000 were culled.
2. One outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry and 24 outbreaks in wild birds have been reported in Japan.
On December 1 and 2, Japan reported one outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and 24 outbreaks in wild birds across four prefectures, including Miyazaki Prefecture. A total of 70 poultry were infected and died, 956,000 poultry were culled, and 29 wild birds were infected and died.
3. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Iraq.
On December 1, Iraq reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Anbar Province, with 400 birds infected, 170 deaths, and 5 culled.
4. Eleven Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in the Netherlands
On December 1 and 5, the Netherlands reported 11 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in six regions, including Flevoland Province, resulting in 1,615 infected birds, 416 deaths, and the culling of 434,000 birds.
5. Eight Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Austria
On December 1, 3, and 5, Austria reported eight outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two regions, including Lower Austria, with 34 infected wild birds and 9 deaths.
6. Three Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Portugal
On December 1 and 3, Portugal reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in the city of Lisbon, resulting in 13,000 infected birds, 2,616 deaths, and the culling of 100,000 birds.
7. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Hungary
On December 1, Hungary reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Bács-Kiskun County and another locality, resulting in the death of four infected wild birds.
8. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Poland
On December 1 and 5, Poland reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Opole Voivodeship, with 50 wild birds infected and one death.
9. One outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry and two outbreaks in wild birds have been reported in Lithuania.
On December 1 and 4, Lithuania reported one outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and two outbreaks in wild birds in three locations, including Marijampolė County, resulting in the infection and death of 300 poultry and 6 wild birds.
10. Thirteen Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in South Africa
On December 1, South Africa reported 13 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two regions, including the Eastern Cape Province, resulting in the infection and death of 160 wild birds.
11. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Norway
On December 1 and 5, Norway reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Rogaland County and another locality, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
12. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in South Korea
On December 2, South Korea reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in three locations, including Busan, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
13. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Ireland.
On December 2, Ireland reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N1 in poultry in County Cavan, resulting in the infection and death of 40 birds.
14. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Finland
On December 3, Finland reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Eastern Finland, resulting in the death of two infected birds.
15. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Colombia.
On December 3, Colombia reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Sucre Department, with 8 free-range poultry infected, 2 deaths, and 36 culls.
16. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Guatemala.
On December 3, Guatemala reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in San Marcos Department, with 37 infected birds, 35 deaths, and 2 culled.
17. Twenty outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry have occurred in France.
On December 3 and 4, France reported 20 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in four departments, including the Loire-Atlantique department in the Pays de la Loire region, resulting in the infection and death of 1,743 birds and the culling of 135,000.
18. Five Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in India
On December 3, India reported five outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Uttarakhand state, resulting in the infection and death of 14,000 birds and the culling of 7,447.
19. Germany has reported 14 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and 564 outbreaks in wild birds.
On December 3 and 4, Germany reported 14 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and 564 outbreaks in wild birds across nine regions, including Schleswig-Holstein. A total of 490 poultry were infected, 409 died, and 140,000 were culled; among wild birds and free-range poultry, 573 were infected, 563 died, and 44 were culled.
20. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Sweden.
On December 3, Sweden reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the city of Norrköping, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
21. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Switzerland.
On December 4, Switzerland reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Canton of Fribourg, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
22. Fifty Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Belgium
On December 4, Belgium reported 50 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza among wild birds in the Flemish Region, resulting in the infection and death of 61 wild and free-range poultry, and the culling of 11 birds.
23. Eight Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Spain
On December 4 and 5, Spain reported eight outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in three regions, including the Autonomous Community of Castile and León, resulting in the infection and death of 24 wild birds.
24. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Latvia
On December 4, Latvia reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two locations, including Ligatne, resulting in the death of five infected wild birds.
25. Fifteen wild bird and six domestic poultry outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in Italy.
On December 5, Italy reported 15 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and 6 in poultry across four regions, including the Veneto Region. A total of 25 wild birds were infected and died, 165,000 poultry were infected, 4,003 died, and 326,000 were culled.
26. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has been reported in the British Cayman Islands.
On December 5, the British Cayman Islands reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the West Bay area, affecting 66 poultry, with 5 deaths and 61 culls.
27. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Slovenia.
On December 5, Slovenia reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N1 in wild birds in the Vipava Valley, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
28. One outbreak of H5 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Iceland.
On December 5, Iceland reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5 subtype avian influenza in wild birds in the western region, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
Other Animal Epidemics
1. Three Outbreaks of Rift Valley Fever in Senegal
On December 1, Senegal reported three outbreaks of Rift Valley fever in three locations, including Saint-Louis Province, involving three infected cattle.
2. One Outbreak of Rift Valley Fever in Mauritania
On December 3, Mauritania reported an outbreak of Rift Valley fever in Assaba Region, affecting 673 sheep and goats and resulting in 95 deaths.
3. One outbreak of Newcastle disease reported in Poland
On December 1, Poland reported an outbreak of Newcastle disease in the Wielkopolska Voivodeship, with 6,000 poultry infected, 30 deaths, and 135,000 birds culled.
4. Two outbreaks of lumpy skin disease have occurred in France.
On December 1, France reported two outbreaks of lumpy skin disease in the Doubs department and another location in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, involving two infected cattle.
5. One West Nile fever outbreak reported in France
On December 1, France reported an outbreak of West Nile fever in the Bouches-du-Rhône department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, with one horse infected.
6. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 4 reported in Bulgaria
On December 3, Bulgaria reported an outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 4 in Lovech Province, resulting in the infection and subsequent culling of one wild red deer.
7. Forty-seven outbreaks of bluetongue disease have occurred in Romania.
On December 3, Romania reported 47 outbreaks of bluetongue disease in Gorj County—40 cases of serotype 3 and 7 cases of serotype 4—resulting in infection in 108 cattle.
8. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 3 reported in Lithuania
On December 3, Lithuania reported an outbreak of Bluetongue disease serotype 3 in Klaipėda County, with three cattle infected.
9. Fourteen Outbreaks of Bluetongue Serotype 8 in Greece
On December 4 and 5, Greece reported 14 outbreaks of Bluetongue serotype 8 in three regions, including the Ionian Islands, affecting 521 sheep and goats and resulting in 310 deaths.
10. Sixteen Outbreaks of Bluetongue Serotype 5 in Italy
On December 4, Italy reported 16 outbreaks of Bluetongue virus serotype 5 in the Sardinia region, with 176 sheep infected and 85 deaths.
11. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 8 has occurred in Slovenia.
On December 5, Slovenia reported an outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 8 in the Koro district, resulting in the death of one infected goat.
12. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 3 has occurred in Serbia.
On December 5, Serbia reported an outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 3 in the South Banat District, with two cattle infected and one death.
13. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 3 has occurred in Morocco.
On December 5, Morocco reported an outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 3 in the Fès-Meknès region, with 16 sheep infected and 4 deaths.
14. Two Outbreaks of Sheep Pox in Romania
On December 4, Romania reported two outbreaks of sheep pox in Teleorman County, affecting 884 sheep and goats, with 35 deaths and 849 animals culled.
15. Nine Outbreaks of SAT2 Foot-and-Mouth Disease in South Africa
On December 1, South Africa reported nine outbreaks of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Type SAT2 in two provinces, including Gauteng, affecting 341 cattle.
16. Eight Outbreaks of SAT1 Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Eswatini
On December 1, Eswatini reported eight outbreaks of SAT1 foot-and-mouth disease in the Lubombo District, affecting 1,688 cattle.
