African swine fever
1. Two Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Moldova
On December 8 and 11, Moldova reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in two locations, including the Cimișlia District, resulting in the death of two infected wild pigs.
2. Ten Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Hungary
On December 8, Hungary reported 10 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in four counties, including Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, resulting in the infection and death of 11 wild pigs.
3. Ten Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Estonia
On December 8 and 9, Estonia reported 10 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in two counties, including Saare County, resulting in the infection and death of 18 wild pigs.
4. Bulgaria Reports 158 Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars
On December 9 and 12, Bulgaria reported 158 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs across seven regions, including Burgas Province, resulting in the infection and death of 243 wild pigs.
5. Fourteen outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and two in domestic pigs have been reported in Croatia.
On December 9, Croatia reported 14 cases of African swine fever in wild boar and 2 cases in domestic pigs in Osijek-Baranja County, resulting in the death of 26 infected wild boar and 26 infected domestic pigs, as well as the culling of 2,801 pigs.
6. Two Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Spain
On December 12, Spain reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, resulting in the death of three infected animals.
7. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs and one in domestic pigs have been reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On December 12, Bosnia and Herzegovina reported one outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs and one in domestic pigs in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and another locality, resulting in the deaths of two wild pigs and infections in four domestic pigs, with 24 domestic pigs culled.
8. Sixty-one outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs have occurred in Poland.
On December 12, Poland reported 61 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars across 11 regions, including the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, resulting in the infection and death of 84 wild boars.
9. Two outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and one in domestic pigs have been reported in Serbia.
On December 12, Serbia reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and one outbreak in domestic pigs in two districts, including the West Bačka District. A total of 45 wild pigs were infected and died, 6 domestic pigs were infected and died, and 4 domestic pigs were culled.
10. Forty-five African swine fever outbreaks in wild pigs reported in Germany
On December 12, Germany reported 45 cases of African swine fever in wild boar in North Rhine-Westphalia, resulting in the death of 45 infected animals.
Avian influenza
1. Fifteen wild bird and three domestic poultry outbreaks of the H5N1 subtype of highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in the United States.
On December 8 and 12, the United States reported 15 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and 3 outbreaks in poultry across six locations, including Michigan. A total of 252 wild and free-range poultry were infected and died, 210 were culled, numerous other poultry were infected and died, and 37,000 were culled.
2. Five wild bird and 14 domestic poultry outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in Canada.
On December 8 and 12, Canada reported five outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 14 outbreaks in poultry across five regions, including British Columbia. A total of 180 wild and free-range poultry were infected, with 178 deaths and 229 culls; additionally, 25,000 poultry were confirmed dead from infection, and 446,000 were culled.
3. Twenty-five outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and nine in poultry have been reported in the United Kingdom.
On December 8 and 12, the United Kingdom reported 25 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 9 outbreaks in poultry across England and two other regions, resulting in the infection and death of 32 wild birds, the infection of 14,000 poultry, the death of 2,056, and the culling of 342.
4. Five Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in France
On December 8 and 11, France reported five outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in four areas, including the Vendée department in the Pays de la Loire region, resulting in the infection and death of 3,960 birds.
5. Seven Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Germany
On December 8 and 11, Germany reported seven outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in five regions, including North Rhine-Westphalia, resulting in 3,839 infected birds, 3,140 deaths, and the culling of 177,000 birds.
6. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Lithuania.
On December 8, Lithuania reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Marijampolė County, resulting in the infection and death of 88 birds and the culling of 25,000.
7. Nine Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Sweden
On December 8, Sweden reported nine outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds across four regions, including Lund County, resulting in the death of nine infected wild birds.
8. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Switzerland.
On December 10, Switzerland reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Canton of Zurich, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
9. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Slovakia
On December 8, Slovakia reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in three locations, including the Nitra Region, resulting in the death of four infected wild birds.
10. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Norway
On December 8 and 12, Norway reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two locations, including Viken County, resulting in the death of two infected wild birds.
11. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Hungary
On December 8 and 11, Hungary reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Komárom-Esztergom County, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
12. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Luxembourg
On December 8, Luxembourg reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Luxembourg District and one other location, resulting in the death of two infected wild birds.
13. Eighty-five outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and two in poultry have been reported in the Netherlands.
On December 8, 9, and 12, the Netherlands reported 85 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and 2 outbreaks in poultry across seven regions, including Friesland. A total of 339 wild and free-range poultry were infected, with 120 deaths and 299 culls; 65 poultry were infected, with 50 deaths and 94,000 culls.
14. One outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry and ten outbreaks in wild birds have been reported in Denmark.
On December 9 and 12, Denmark reported one outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and ten outbreaks in wild birds in six locations, including the Mariager Fjord Municipality, resulting in the infection and death of multiple poultry and 12 wild birds.
15. Seven outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza caused by the H5N1 subtype, one outbreak caused by the H5N6 subtype, and one outbreak caused by the H5N9 subtype have been reported in wild birds in South Korea.
On December 8 and 9, South Korea reported seven outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza caused by the H5N1 subtype in wild birds, one outbreak caused by the H5N6 subtype, and one outbreak caused by the H5N9 subtype, all in five locations including Gyeonggi Province, resulting in the death of nine wild birds.
16. Seven outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and four in poultry have been reported in Italy.
On December 9 and 12, Italy reported seven outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and four in poultry in three regions, including Lombardy. Seven wild birds were infected and died, 86,000 poultry were infected, 1,733 died, and 141,000 were culled.
17. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has been reported in Japan.
On December 9, Japan reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Tottori Prefecture, resulting in the infection and death of 700 birds and the culling of 75,000.
18. Four Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in the Czech Republic
On December 9, 10, and 12, the Czech Republic reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in three regions, including the Vysočina Region. A total of 19 wild and free-range poultry were infected, 17 died, and 13 were culled.
19. Four outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and three in poultry have been reported in Poland.
On December 10, Poland reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and three in poultry across six regions, including the Greater Poland Voivodeship. Five wild birds were infected and died, while 93,000 poultry were infected, with 1,831 fatalities.
20. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Portugal
From December 10 to 12, Portugal reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Lisbon and two other locations, resulting in 2,526 infected birds, 213 deaths, and the culling of 83,000 birds.
21. One outbreak of H5 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Kazakhstan.
On December 10, Kazakhstan reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5 subtype avian influenza in wild birds in Akmola Region, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird and the culling of two.
22. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Estonia
On December 10–11, Estonia reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two locations, including Harju County, resulting in the infection and death of eight wild and free-range poultry.
23. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Finland.
On December 11, Finland reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Province of Western Finland, resulting in the death of five infected wild birds.
24. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Slovenia.
On December 11, Slovenia reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N1 in wild birds in the Osrednjeslovenska Region, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
25. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N5 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in the United Kingdom.
On December 12, the United Kingdom reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N5 in a wild bird within its exclusive economic zone, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
26. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N5 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Canada.
On December 12, Canada reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N5 avian influenza in wild birds in Saskatchewan, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
27. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has been reported in Nigeria.
On December 12, Nigeria reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Ogun State, resulting in the infection and death of 6,200 birds and the culling of 300.
28. Six Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Spain
On December 12, Spain reported six outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two regions, including the Community of Madrid, resulting in the infection and death of 604 wild birds.
Other Animal Epidemics
1. Eight Outbreaks of Bluetongue Virus Serotype 3 in the United Kingdom
On December 7, the United Kingdom reported eight outbreaks of Bluetongue virus serotype 3 in England and two other regions, affecting 75 cattle.
2. Fifteen Outbreaks of Bluetongue Serotype 3 in Poland
On December 10 and 12, Poland reported 15 outbreaks of Bluetongue serotype 3 in three regions, including the Greater Poland Voivodeship, affecting 36 cattle.
3. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 8 has occurred in North Macedonia.
On December 10, North Macedonia reported an outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 8 in the Novo Selo municipality, with two sheep infected.
4. Six Bluetongue Outbreaks in Greece
On December 12, Greece reported two outbreaks of Bluetongue serotype 3 and four outbreaks of Bluetongue serotype 8 in the regional unit of Messinia, totaling six outbreaks. A total of 142 sheep and goats were infected, with 100 deaths.
5. Two Outbreaks of Equine Infectious Anemia in Chile
On December 9, Chile reported two outbreaks of equine infectious anemia in the Coquimbo Region and another locality, resulting in infection in seven horses and the culling of 14.
6. Six Rabies Outbreaks in Kazakhstan
On December 9 and 11, Kazakhstan reported six rabies outbreaks in three regions, including the Zhambyl Region: four domestic dogs and one domestic cat were infected and died, and one wild red fox was infected and subsequently culled.
7. Two Outbreaks of Abortion Brucellosis in Botswana
On December 9, Botswana reported two outbreaks of brucellosis resulting in abortion in the Central District and another area, with nine cattle and one goat infected.
8. Three Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease in Poland
On December 10, Poland reported three outbreaks of Newcastle disease in the Wielkopolska Voivodeship, resulting in infection of 86,000 poultry, 345 deaths, and the culling of 5,970 birds.
9. Two outbreaks of lumpy skin disease have occurred in France.
On December 11, France reported two outbreaks of lumpy skin disease in the Hautes-Pyrénées and Allier departments in the Occitanie region, affecting two cattle.
10. Forty-one outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease have occurred in Lebanon.
On December 9, Lebanon reported 41 outbreaks of undetermined foot-and-mouth disease in the Bekaa Valley, affecting 1,040 cattle and resulting in 10 deaths.
11. Fifteen outbreaks of SAT2 foot-and-mouth disease have occurred in South Africa.
On December 12, South Africa reported 15 outbreaks of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Type SAT2 in four areas, including Limpopo Province, affecting 311 cattle.
