African swine fever
1. Forty-five African swine fever outbreaks in wild pigs have been reported in Latvia.
On March 9, Latvia reported 45 cases of African swine fever in wild boars across four locations, including the city of Tukums, resulting in the infection and death of 45 wild boars.
2. Thirty-two African swine fever outbreaks in wild pigs have occurred in Hungary.
On March 10, Hungary reported 32 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs across four regions, including Nógrád County, resulting in the infection and death of 36 wild pigs.
3. Three Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Estonia
On March 11, Estonia reported three outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in Rapla County and two other locations, resulting in the death of four infected wild pigs.
4. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs has been reported in Moldova.
On March 11, Moldova reported an outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs in the Cimișlia District, resulting in the death of two infected wild pigs.
5. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs reported in Spain
On March 12, Spain reported an outbreak of African swine fever in wild boar in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, resulting in the infection and death of 11 wild boar.
6. Six Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Bulgaria
On March 13, Bulgaria reported six outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in four regions, including Dobrich Province, resulting in the infection and death of 14 wild pigs.
7. Twelve outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and three in domestic pigs have been reported in Romania.
On March 13, Romania reported 12 cases of African swine fever in wild pigs and 3 cases in domestic pigs across five counties, including Sălaj County. A total of 19 wild pigs were infected and died, 16 domestic pigs were infected and 587 died, while 8,076 pigs were culled.
8. One outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs reported in Nepal
On March 9, Nepal reported an outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs in the Far-Western Region, with two infected pigs and one death.
Avian influenza
1. Eleven outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and four in poultry have been reported in Poland.
On March 9, 10, and 13, Poland reported 11 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and 4 in poultry across five regions, including the Pomeranian Voivodeship. A total of 21 wild birds were infected and died, 105,000 poultry were infected, 3,204 died, and 18,000 were culled.
2. Thirteen outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and one outbreak in poultry have been reported in the Netherlands.
On March 9 and 13, the Netherlands reported 13 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one outbreak in domestic poultry across six regions, including North Brabant. A total of 23 wild birds were infected and died, 178 domestic poultry were infected and died, and 22,000 birds were culled.
3. One outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and two outbreaks in poultry have been reported in Hungary.
On March 9 and 10, Hungary reported one outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and two outbreaks in poultry in Bács-Kiskun County, resulting in the infection and death of two wild birds and several poultry.
4. Three Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in France
On March 9 and 13, France reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in three regions, including the Maine-et-Loire department, resulting in the infection and death of 527 birds and the culling of 895,000 birds.
5. Five Outbreaks of H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Estonia
On March 9, Estonia reported five outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two areas—Harju County and the exclusive economic zone—resulting in the death of six infected wild birds.
6. Nine outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and three in poultry have been reported in Denmark.
On March 9, 10, and 13, Denmark reported nine outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and three in poultry in three locations, including the Autonomous Municipality of North Funen. A total of 12 wild and free-range poultry died from infection, 101 commercial poultry were infected and died, and 382 were culled.
7. Three Outbreaks of H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Norway
On March 9, Norway reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Rogaland County, resulting in the death of three infected birds.
8. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Austria
On March 10, Austria reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Vienna and another region, resulting in the death of two infected wild birds.
9. Three outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and three in poultry have been reported in the Czech Republic.
On March 9, 10, and 13, the Czech Republic reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and three in domestic poultry in two regions, including the Hradec Králové Region. A total of 16 wild and free-range domestic birds were infected and died, 24 were culled, and 278 commercial poultry were infected and died.
10. Twenty-two outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and one in poultry have been reported in the United Kingdom.
On March 10 and 13, the United Kingdom reported 22 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and 1 outbreak in domestic poultry across five regions, including England. A total of 23 wild birds were infected and died, 1,000 domestic poultry were infected with 25 deaths, and 1,019 birds were culled.
11. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Bulgaria
On March 10, Bulgaria reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Haskovo Province, resulting in the infection and death of 1,610 birds.
12. Nineteen outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds have occurred in Spain.
On March 11 and 12, Spain reported 19 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds across four regions, including the Community of Madrid, resulting in the infection and death of 34 wild birds.
13. Five Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Germany
On March 11 and 13, Germany reported five outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, resulting in 734 infected birds, 722 deaths, and the culling of 117,000 birds.
14. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Romania.
On March 12, Romania reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Bihor County, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
15. Seven Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Sweden
On March 12 and 13, Sweden reported seven outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in four locations, including the city of Ängelholm, resulting in the infection and death of 11 wild birds.
16. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Italy.
On March 13, Italy reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in the Umbria region, with 97 infected birds and 92 deaths.
17. Ten outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds have occurred in Belgium.
On March 13, Belgium reported 10 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Flemish Region, resulting in the infection and death of 10 wild birds.
18. One outbreak of H5 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Peru.
On March 13, Peru reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5 subtype avian influenza in wild birds in the Cajamarca Region, resulting in the infection and death of 63 wild and free-range poultry.
19. Two Outbreaks of H5 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Uruguay
On March 12, Uruguay reported two outbreaks of H5 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds in two departments—Florida and Lavalleja—resulting in the death of two infected wild birds.
20. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Chile.
On March 10, Chile reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Valparaíso Region, affecting 281 wild and free-range poultry, with 216 deaths and 65 birds culled.
21. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Colombia.
On March 9, Colombia reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Meta Department, resulting in the infection and death of 120 wild and free-range poultry, with an additional 30 birds culled.
22. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Brazil.
On March 9, Brazil reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Mato Grosso state, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
23. Four wild bird and one domestic poultry outbreaks of H5 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza have occurred in Argentina.
On March 13, Argentina reported four outbreaks of H5 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and one outbreak in domestic poultry in Buenos Aires Province, resulting in the infection and death of 173 wild and free-range poultry, the culling of 494 birds, and the infection and death of several commercial poultry flocks.
24. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Nigeria.
On March 9, Nigeria reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Plateau State, with 40 birds infected, 30 deaths, and 70 culls.
Other animal epidemics
1. One outbreak of peste des petits ruminants has occurred in Nepal.
On March 9, Nepal reported an outbreak of peste des petits ruminants in the Far-Western Region, with three goats infected.
2. One rabies outbreak in Armenia
On March 9, Armenia reported an outbreak of rabies in Yerevan, resulting in the death of a domestic dog.
3. Three Rabies Outbreaks in Romania
On March 12, Romania reported three rabies outbreaks in three locations, including Maramureș County, resulting in the deaths of two domestic dogs and one cow.
4. One rabies outbreak reported in Moldova
On March 13, Moldova reported an outbreak of rabies in the Drochia District, with one wild red fox infected and subsequently dying.
5. One outbreak of equine infectious anemia has occurred in Hungary.
On March 9, Hungary reported an outbreak of equine infectious anemia in Heves County, with one horse infected.
6. Five Outbreaks of Equine Infectious Anemia in Chile
On March 9 and 10, Chile reported five outbreaks of equine infectious anemia in three regions, including the Coquimbo Region, resulting in the culling of 10 infected horses.
7. Eighteen Bluetongue Outbreaks in the United Kingdom
On March 9 and 13, the United Kingdom reported 1 outbreak of bluetongue serotype 8 and 17 outbreaks of serotype 3 in England, totaling 18 outbreaks; 32 cattle were infected, and 4 were culled.
8. Nineteen outbreaks of Bluetongue serotype 8 have occurred in Germany.
On March 10 and 11, Germany reported 19 outbreaks of Bluetongue virus serotype 8 in three regions, including Baden-Württemberg, affecting 39 cattle and one goat, with 8 cattle and 1 goat succumbing to the disease.
9. One outbreak of Newcastle disease has occurred in Spain.
On March 9, Spain reported an outbreak of Newcastle disease in the Valencian Community, with 80 poultry infected and 44 deaths.
10. Two Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease in Poland
On March 13, Poland reported two outbreaks of Newcastle disease in two regions, including the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, resulting in 506,000 infected poultry and 2,503 deaths.
11. Ten Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease in Germany
On March 13, Germany reported 10 outbreaks of Newcastle disease in Brandenburg, affecting 4,360 poultry and resulting in 360 deaths.
12. One outbreak of rabbit hemorrhagic disease has occurred in Côte d'Ivoire.
On March 11, Côte d’Ivoire reported an outbreak of rabbit hemorrhagic disease in the Lagoon Region, resulting in the infection and death of 500 domestic rabbits.
13. An outbreak of New World screw-worm myiasis has occurred in Mexico.
On March 13, Mexico reported an outbreak of New World screw-worm myiasis in Guanajuato State, with one cattle infected.
14. Fifteen outbreaks of SAT1 foot-and-mouth disease have occurred in Cyprus.
On March 9 and 12, Cyprus reported 15 outbreaks of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Type SAT1 in the Larnaca District, resulting in infection of 190 cattle and sheep and the culling of 8,646 animals.
15. Two Outbreaks of Atypical Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Lesotho
On March 9, Lesotho reported two outbreaks of undetermined foot-and-mouth disease in two locations, including the city of Leribe, affecting six cattle.
16. Four Outbreaks of SAT1 Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Israel
On March 11, Israel reported four outbreaks of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Type SAT1 in the city of Haifa, infecting 317 cattle and resulting in 15 deaths.
17. Fifty-eight outbreaks of SAT2 foot-and-mouth disease have occurred in South Africa.
On March 13, South Africa reported 58 outbreaks of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Type SAT2 in three regions, including the Western Cape Province, resulting in 2,230 infected cattle, 91 deaths, and the culling of 36 animals.
