African swine fever
1. Twenty-four African swine fever outbreaks in wild pigs have occurred in Hungary.
On January 19 and 21, Hungary reported 24 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs across four counties, including Fejér County, resulting in the infection and death of 25 wild pigs.
2. Three outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and one in domestic pigs have been reported in Moldova.
On January 19 and 22, Moldova reported three outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and one in domestic pigs in three locations, including the Călărași District, resulting in the infection and death of three wild pigs and one domestic pig.
3. Eleven outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and one in domestic pigs have been reported in Croatia.
On January 19 and 20, Croatia reported 11 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar and 1 outbreak in domestic pigs in Vukovar-Srijem County and another locality, resulting in the death of 18 infected wild boar and 1 infected domestic pig, as well as the culling of 21 domestic pigs.
4. Latvia Reports 73 Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars and 1 in Domestic Pigs
On January 19 and 22, Latvia reported 73 cases of African swine fever in wild boars and 1 case in domestic pigs in four districts, including Saldus County, resulting in the infection and death of 73 wild boars and 4 domestic pigs.
5. Poland Reports 97 Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars
On January 19, Poland reported 97 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars across eight regions, including the Lubusz Voivodeship, resulting in the infection and death of 193 wild boars.
6. Sixteen Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Bulgaria
On January 20, Bulgaria reported 16 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs across five regions, including Ruse Province, resulting in the infection and death of 16 wild pigs.
7. Lithuania Reports 96 Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars
On January 20, Lithuania reported 96 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars across four regions, including Vilnius County, resulting in the infection and death of 128 wild boars.
8. Forty-three African swine fever outbreaks in wild pigs have been reported in Italy.
On January 22, Italy reported 43 cases of African swine fever in wild boars across three regions, including Tuscany, resulting in the infection and death of 43 wild boars.
9. Five Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Estonia
On January 22, Estonia reported five outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in four areas, including Saare County, resulting in the infection and death of nine wild pigs.
10. Three Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Spain
On January 23, Spain reported three outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, resulting in the infection and death of 21 wild boar.
11. One outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs has occurred in Serbia.
On January 23, Serbia reported an outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs in the Kolubara District, resulting in the infection and death of two pigs.
Avian influenza
1. Two outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry and three in wild birds have been reported in Canada.
On January 19 and 20, Canada reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and three in wild birds in Ontario, resulting in the infection and death of 7,002 poultry, the culling of 8,752 poultry, the infection and death of 181 wild and free-range birds, and the culling of two wild birds.
2. Nine wild bird and seven domestic poultry outbreaks of the H5N1 subtype of highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in the United States.
On January 23, the United States reported nine outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and seven in poultry across eight locations, including New York State. A total of 176 wild and free-range poultry were infected, 42 were culled, and 431,000 commercial poultry were also culled.
3. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in the Czech Republic
On January 19, the Czech Republic reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two regions, including the Plzeň Region, resulting in the infection and death of 59 wild and free-range poultry and the culling of 118 birds.
4. Three outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and two in poultry have been reported in Poland.
On January 19, 20, and 22, Poland reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and two in poultry in three regions, including the Greater Poland Voivodeship. Three wild birds died after infection, while 2.931 million poultry were infected, with 800 deaths.
5. One outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry and 97 outbreaks in wild birds have been reported in Belgium.
On January 19, 22, and 23, Belgium reported one outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and 97 outbreaks in wild birds across three regions, including the Flemish Region. A total of 16,000 poultry were infected, 36 died, and 39,000 were culled; among wild birds, 138 were infected and 133 died.
6. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5 subtype avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Belgium.
On January 22, Belgium reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5 subtype avian influenza in wild birds in the city of Brussels, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
7. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Austria.
On January 19, Austria reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Lower Austria, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
8. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Latvia.
On January 19, Latvia reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Riga, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
9. Forty-five outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and five in poultry have been reported in the United Kingdom.
On January 19 and 23, the United Kingdom reported 45 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 5 outbreaks in poultry across England, Scotland, and other regions, resulting in the infection and death of 52 wild and free-range poultry, the culling of 847 birds, the infection of 40,000 poultry, and the death of 3,619.
10. Six Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Israel
On January 20, Israel reported six outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds across three regions, including the Haifa District, resulting in the infection and death of six wild birds.
11. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Brazil.
On January 21, Brazil reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Mato Grosso state, with 54 free-range poultry infected, 52 deaths, and 339 birds culled.
12. Three Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Japan
On January 21, Japan reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in three prefectures, including Hyogo Prefecture, resulting in the infection and death of 61 birds and the culling of 202,000 birds.
13. Two Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in South Africa
On January 20, South Africa reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in the Western Cape Province, resulting in the infection and death of 358 birds and the culling of 117.
14. Two Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Nigeria
On January 21, Nigeria reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Kaduna State and another locality, resulting in 3,097 infected birds, 590 deaths, and the culling of 2,507 birds.
15. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Switzerland.
On January 21, Switzerland reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Canton of Vaud, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
16. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Moldova
On January 21 and 23, Moldova reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Chisinau District and another locality, resulting in the infection and death of five wild birds.
17. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Denmark.
On January 22, Denmark reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the municipality of Hals, with five wild birds infected and dying.
18. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Finland
On January 22, Finland reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Southern Finland Province, resulting in the death of two infected wild birds.
19. Thirteen Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in the Netherlands
On January 22, the Netherlands reported 13 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds across five regions, including Limburg Province, involving 23 infected wild and free-range poultry, with 10 deaths and 13 culls.
20. France Reports 110 Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds
On January 23, France reported 110 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds across 10 areas, including the Gironde department, resulting in the infection and death of 344 wild and free-range poultry and the culling of 652 birds.
21. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Serbia.
On January 23, Serbia reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Pomoravlje District, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
22. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Romania.
On January 23, Romania reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Vaslui County, resulting in the infection and death of eight wild birds.
23. Four outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and three in domestic poultry have been reported in Italy.
On January 23, Italy reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and three in poultry in the Lombardy region and two other areas. Four wild birds died from infection, 185,000 poultry were infected, 275 died, and nearly 185,000 were culled.
Other Animal Epidemics
1. Three Cases of Pseudorabies Outbreak in Hungary
On January 19, Hungary reported three cases of pseudorabies in Baranya County and another region, with three domestic pigs infected.
2. Seven Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease in Poland
On January 19 and 21, Poland reported seven outbreaks of Newcastle disease in three regions, including the Greater Poland Voivodeship, resulting in 925,000 infected poultry, 4,113 deaths, and the culling of 493,000 birds.
3. One outbreak of Newcastle disease has occurred in Spain.
On January 21, Spain reported an outbreak of Newcastle disease in the Valencian Community, resulting in the infection and death of 31,000 poultry and the culling of 45,000 birds.
4. One outbreak of nodular dermatosis has occurred in Spain.
On January 19, Spain reported an outbreak of lumpy skin disease in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, with four cattle infected.
5. Two Outbreaks of Lumpy Skin Disease in Malaysia
On January 21, Malaysia reported two outbreaks of lumpy skin disease in Pahang and another region, with 13 cattle infected.
6. One outbreak of rabbit hemorrhagic disease reported in Norway
On January 19, Norway reported an outbreak of rabbit hemorrhagic disease in Sør-Trøndelag County, resulting in the death of two domestic rabbits.
7. Two Outbreaks of Bluetongue Disease in Romania
On January 19, Romania reported two outbreaks of bluetongue disease in Sibiu County—one involving serotype 8 and the other serotype 3—resulting in infection in 26 cattle.
8. Two Outbreaks of Bluetongue Virus Serotype 3 in the United Kingdom
On January 19, the United Kingdom reported two outbreaks of Bluetongue serotype 3 in England, affecting seven cattle.
9. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 8 has occurred in Hungary.
On January 23, Hungary reported an outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 8 in Zala County, resulting in the death of one sheep.
10. One Anthrax Outbreak in South Sudan
On January 20, South Sudan reported an anthrax outbreak in Warrap State, with 304 cattle infected, 172 deaths, and 75 animals culled.
11. Five Rabies Outbreaks in Malaysia
On January 21, Malaysia reported five rabies outbreaks in Sarawak, resulting in the culling of five domestic dogs after they tested positive.
12. Eighteen New World screw-worm fly outbreaks reported in Mexico
On January 22, Mexico reported 18 outbreaks of New World screw-worm myiasis in six states, including Tamaulipas, affecting 18 cattle and other livestock.
13. Two Outbreaks of New World Screw-Worm Fly Infestation in Belize
On January 22, Belize reported two outbreaks of New World screw-worm myiasis in Orange Walk District, affecting one domestic dog and one horse.
14. One outbreak of equine infectious anemia has occurred in Chile.
On January 22, Chile reported an outbreak of equine infectious anemia in the Coquimbo Region, with three horses infected and one euthanized.
15. Two Outbreaks of Salmonella Abortus in Romania
On January 22 and 23, Romania reported two outbreaks of salmonellosis resulting in abortion in Maramureș County, affecting three sheep.
16. One outbreak of peste des petits ruminants has occurred in Croatia.
On January 22, Croatia reported an outbreak of peste des petits ruminants in Split-Dalmatia County, affecting three sheep.
17. One outbreak of O-type foot-and-mouth disease has occurred in Malaysia.
On January 19, Malaysia reported an outbreak of O-type foot-and-mouth disease in Malacca State, with 23 cattle infected and 1 death.
18. Two Outbreaks of O-Type Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Algeria
On January 19, Algeria reported two outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease type O in Saida Province, affecting six cattle.
19. One outbreak of SAT1-type foot-and-mouth disease has occurred in Israel.
On January 20, Israel reported an outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Type SAT1 in the Golan Heights, affecting 80 cattle.
