African swine fever
1. Seventeen Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Hungary
On January 12, Hungary reported 17 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in three counties, including Fejér County, resulting in the infection and death of 19 wild pigs.
2. Four Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Spain
On January 12 and 16, Spain reported four outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, resulting in the infection and death of 17 wild boar.
3. Poland Reports 119 Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars
On January 12, Poland reported 119 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars across 10 regions, including the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, resulting in the infection and death of 225 wild boars.
4. One outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs reported in Angola
On January 12, Angola reported an outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs in Huambo Province, with 25 infected pigs and 6 deaths.
5. Seven Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Domestic Pigs Reported in South Africa
On January 12, South Africa reported seven outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs in two provinces, including the Eastern Cape, resulting in 973 infected animals, 826 deaths, and the culling of 29 pigs.
6. Twenty-six African swine fever outbreaks in wild pigs reported in Latvia
On January 12, Latvia reported 26 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars in the Saldus Municipality, resulting in the infection and death of 26 animals.
7. Italy Reports 61 Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars
On January 13 and 16, Italy reported 61 cases of African swine fever in wild boars across four regions, including the Piedmont Region, resulting in the infection and death of 61 wild boars.
8. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs and one in domestic pigs have been reported in Moldova.
On January 13, Moldova reported one outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs and one in domestic pigs in two districts, including the Hânceşti District. Two wild pigs died from infection, seven domestic pigs died from infection, and 68 domestic pigs were culled.
9. Six Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Estonia
On January 14 and 15, Estonia reported six outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in five locations, including Viljandi County, resulting in the infection and death of eight wild pigs.
10. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs has occurred in Ukraine.
On January 15, Ukraine reported an outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, resulting in the infection and death of five wild pigs.
11. Ten outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and one in domestic pigs have been reported in Serbia.
On January 16, Serbia reported 10 cases of African swine fever in wild boars and 1 case in domestic pigs in the West Bačka District, resulting in the death of 17 infected wild boars and the culling of 2 infected domestic pigs.
12. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs and four outbreaks in domestic pigs have been reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On January 16, Bosnia and Herzegovina reported one outbreak of African swine fever in wild boar and four outbreaks in domestic pigs in the Republika Srpska: one wild boar died after infection, 46 domestic pigs were infected, 38 died, and 95 were culled.
Avian influenza
1. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Estonia
On January 12 and 13, Estonia reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two locations, including Viru County, resulting in the infection and death of seven wild birds.
2. Five Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in France
On January 12, 14, and 16, France reported five outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in three departments, including Deux-Sèvres, resulting in the infection and death of 377 birds and the culling of 126,000.
3. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Iraq.
On January 12, Iraq reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Salah al-Din Province, with 5,000 birds infected and 1,000 deaths.
4. Three outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry and four in wild birds have been reported in the Netherlands.
On January 12 and 15, the Netherlands reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and four in wild birds across four regions, including Flevoland Province. A total of 455 poultry were infected, 260 died, 67,000 were culled, and 15 wild birds were infected and died.
5. Three outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and three in poultry have been reported in Poland.
On January 12 and 13, Poland reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and three in poultry in Lublin Voivodeship and another region, affecting a total of 266 wild and free-range poultry, with 86 deaths; additionally, 208,000 poultry were infected, resulting in 4,781 deaths.
6. Five Outbreaks of H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Hungary
On January 12 and 13, Hungary reported five outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in two regions, including Nógrád County, resulting in the infection and death of numerous birds.
7. One outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza caused by the H5N1 subtype and one outbreak caused by the H5N2 subtype have been reported in wild birds in Latvia.
On January 12, Latvia reported one outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza caused by the H5N1 subtype and one outbreak caused by the H5N2 subtype in wild birds in the Saldus Municipality, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
8. Four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry have occurred in Belgium.
On January 12 and 15, Belgium reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in the Flemish Region, resulting in 121,000 infected birds, 968 deaths, and the culling of 350,000 birds.
9. Four Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Germany
On January 12 and 15, Germany reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in two regions, including Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, resulting in 1,295 infected birds, 1,158 deaths, and the culling of 138,000 birds.
10. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Slovenia
On January 13, Slovenia reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Dolenjska region, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
11. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in the Czech Republic.
On January 13, the Czech Republic reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Liberec Region, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
12. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Austria
On January 13 and 16, Austria reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two regions, including Tyrol, resulting in the infection and death of four wild birds.
13. Two Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Japan
On January 13, Japan reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in two regions, including Hokkaido, resulting in the infection and death of 43 birds and the culling of 13,000.
14. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has been reported in Italy.
On January 13, Italy reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the Veneto region, affecting 84,000 poultry, with 45 deaths and 184,000 birds culled.
15. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Switzerland
On January 14, Switzerland reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the cantons of Thurgau and Vaud, resulting in the death of five infected wild birds.
16. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Sweden.
On January 15, Sweden reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N2 avian influenza in wild birds in the municipality of Söderköping, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
17. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Spain.
On January 14, Spain reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, resulting in the infection and death of 180 birds and the culling of 9,320.
18. Two outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and four in poultry have been reported in Canada.
On January 14, Canada reported two outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and four outbreaks in poultry across four regions, including Alberta. A total of six wild birds and free-range poultry died from infection, 174 birds were culled, and 11 poultry died after becoming infected.
19. Twenty-three wild bird and 24 poultry outbreaks of the H5N1 subtype of highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in the United States.
On January 14 and 16, the United States reported 23 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 24 outbreaks in poultry across 10 locations, including Texas. A total of 715 wild and free-range poultry were infected and died, 1,230 were culled, 4,099 poultry were infected and died, and 762,000 were culled.
20. Seven Outbreaks of H5 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in the United States
On January 14, the United States reported seven outbreaks of H5 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds across five locations, including Kansas. Thirteen wild and free-range poultry were infected and died, and 50 were culled.
21. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Norway.
On January 15, Norway reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the city of Trondheim, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
22. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Ukraine.
On January 16, Ukraine reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Kyiv, with two infected wild birds dying.
23. Four Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Denmark
On January 16, Denmark reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in four locations, including the municipality of Slagelse, resulting in the death of four infected wild birds.
24. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Moldova.
On January 16, Moldova reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N1 in wild birds in the Telenești District, resulting in the infection and death of two wild birds.
Other Animal Epidemics
1. One anthrax outbreak in South Sudan
On January 12, South Sudan reported an anthrax outbreak in Warrap State, affecting 133 cattle and 170 sheep and goats, with 61 cattle and 110 sheep and goats succumbing to the disease.
2. Two Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease in Poland
On January 12, Poland reported two outbreaks of Newcastle disease in the Wielkopolska Voivodeship, resulting in infection of 152,000 poultry, 1,725 deaths, and the culling of 23,000 birds.
3. One outbreak of nodular dermatosis has occurred in France.
On January 13, France reported an outbreak of lumpy skin disease in Ariège Province, with one bovine case confirmed.
4. Three Outbreaks of Echinococcus Granulosus Infection in Romania
On January 14, Romania reported three outbreaks of echinococcosis in Neamț County, affecting four cattle.
5. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 8 has occurred in Germany.
On January 13, Germany reported an outbreak of Bluetongue disease serotype 8 in North Rhine-Westphalia, with one bovine infected.
6. Three Outbreaks of Bluetongue Serotype 8 in Bosnia and Herzegovina
On January 15, Bosnia and Herzegovina reported three outbreaks of Bluetongue serotype 8 in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with seven sheep infected and six deaths.
7. Two Cases of Pseudorabies Outbreak in Hungary
On January 16, Hungary reported two cases of pseudorabies in Somogy County, with 18 domestic pigs infected.
8. Four Outbreaks of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Eswatini
On January 12, Eswatini reported four outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease—three involving the SAT1 serotype and one involving the SAT2 serotype—in two districts, including Manzini, with 112 cattle infected.
9. Sixty-four outbreaks of SAT2 foot-and-mouth disease have occurred in South Africa.
On January 13 and 16, South Africa reported 64 outbreaks of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Type SAT2 in three regions, including Mpumalanga Province, resulting in 391 infected cattle and 28 deaths.
10. Two Outbreaks of SAT1 Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Zimbabwe
On January 15, Zimbabwe reported two outbreaks of SAT1 foot-and-mouth disease in Matabeleland South Province, affecting 54 cattle.
