African swine fever
1. Eight Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Hungary
On January 5, Hungary reported eight outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in three regions, including Pest County, resulting in the infection and death of eight wild pigs.
2. Two Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Spain
On January 5, Spain reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, resulting in the infection and death of 18 wild boar.
3. Twenty-four African swine fever outbreaks in wild pigs reported in Germany
On January 5, Germany reported 24 cases of African swine fever in wild boars in two regions—Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia—resulting in the infection and death of 24 wild boars.
4. Five Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Estonia
On January 5, Estonia reported five outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in five locations, including Jõgeva County, resulting in the infection and death of five wild pigs.
5. Three Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Croatia
On January 5, Croatia reported three outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars in Osijek-Baranja County, resulting in the death of three infected animals.
6. Two outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and two in domestic pigs have been reported in Moldova.
On January 6 and 9, Moldova reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and two in domestic pigs in three locations, including the Stefan Voda district, resulting in the infection and death of two wild pigs and four domestic pigs.
7. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs has occurred in Ukraine.
On January 7, Ukraine reported an outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs in Chernivtsi Oblast, resulting in the infection and death of four wild pigs.
8. One outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs reported in Bhutan
On January 7, Bhutan reported an outbreak of African swine fever in Chukha District, involving one domestic pig farm. Three pigs were infected and died, and three more were culled.
9. Twenty-three African swine fever outbreaks in wild pigs reported in Bulgaria
On January 7, Bulgaria reported 23 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs across four regions, including Montana Province, resulting in the infection and death of 23 wild pigs.
Avian influenza
1. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Lithuania.
On January 5, Lithuania reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N1 in wild birds in Kaunas County, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
2. Two Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Bulgaria
On January 5 and 6, Bulgaria reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Plovdiv Province and another locality, resulting in the infection and death of 1,653 birds and the culling of 89,000.
3. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Slovenia
On January 5, 6, and 7, Slovenia reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in three locations, including the Savinjska Region, resulting in the infection and death of 10 wild birds.
4. Seven outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 13 in poultry have been reported in Poland.
On January 5, 7, and 8, Poland reported seven outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 13 outbreaks in poultry across six regions, including the Pomeranian Voivodeship. A total of 126 wild and free-range poultry were infected, with 67 deaths; 1.244 million poultry were infected, with 9,392 deaths; and 102,000 birds were culled.
5. Four Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in France
On January 5 and 6, France reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in four locations, including the Nord department, resulting in the infection and death of 66 birds and the culling of 14,000.
6. One outbreak of H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in dairy cattle has occurred in the United States.
On January 5, the United States reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in dairy cattle in Wisconsin, with multiple cows infected.
7. One outbreak of H5 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in the United States.
On January 5, the United States reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5 subtype avian influenza in wild birds in Washington State, resulting in the culling of 53 free-range poultry.
8. Six outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and one in wild birds have been reported in the United States.
On January 5, the United States reported six outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and one in wild birds across four locations, including Indiana. A total of 470 poultry were infected and died, 96,000 were culled, and several wild birds were also infected and died.
9. Five Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in the Netherlands
On January 5 and 6, the Netherlands reported five outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in four regions, including South Holland Province, resulting in the death of eight infected wild birds and the culling of 30.
10. Germany has reported 191 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 3 outbreaks in poultry.
From January 5 to 7, Germany reported 191 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 3 outbreaks in poultry across four regions, including Saxony. A total of 225 wild and free-range poultry were infected, with 202 deaths and 53 culls; 992 poultry were infected, with 838 deaths and 44,000 culls.
11. Eleven outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry have occurred in India.
On January 5, India reported 11 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Kerala, resulting in the infection and death of 54,000 birds and the culling of 30,000.
12. Two Outbreaks of H5 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Italy
On January 5, Italy reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5 subtype avian influenza in wild birds in two regions, including the Veneto Region, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
13. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Hungary
On January 6, Hungary reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Csongrád County, resulting in the infection and death of numerous birds.
14. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Israel.
On January 6, Israel reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in the northern district, resulting in the infection and death of 90 birds and the culling of 1,910.
15. Four Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in the Czech Republic
On January 6 and 9, the Czech Republic reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in three regions, including the Central Bohemian Region. A total of 19 wild and free-range poultry were infected, 18 died, and 35 were culled.
16. Seventy-seven outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and six in poultry have been reported in the United Kingdom.
On January 6, 7, and 9, the United Kingdom reported 77 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 6 outbreaks in poultry across England and two other regions, resulting in infection of 612 wild and free-range poultry, with 121 deaths; additionally, 13,000 poultry were infected, and 5,918 died.
17. Seven Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Switzerland
On January 7, Switzerland reported seven outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds across four regions, including the canton of Thurgau, resulting in the infection and death of eight wild birds.
18. Three Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Japan
On January 7 and 8, Japan reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in three locations, including Kyoto City, resulting in the infection and death of 151 birds and the culling of 1.899 million birds.
19. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Spain.
On January 8, Spain reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Autonomous Community of Aragon, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
20. One outbreak of H5 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry has occurred in the Philippines.
On January 9, the Philippines reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5 subtype avian influenza in poultry in Davao del Sur Province, with five birds infected and 1,951 culled.
21. Seven Outbreaks of H5N1 Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in the Philippines
On January 9, the Philippines reported seven outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in South Cotabato Province, resulting in the infection and death of 12,000 birds and the culling of 124,000.
22. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N8 Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in the Philippines
On January 9, the Philippines reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N8 avian influenza in poultry in South Cotabato Province, resulting in the infection and death of 1,016 birds and the culling of 962.
23. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Sweden.
On January 9, Sweden reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the municipality of Sjöbo, Skåne County, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
24. Denmark has reported 21 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 1 outbreak in poultry.
On January 9, Denmark reported 21 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one outbreak in domestic poultry across five locations, including the Municipality of Helsingør. A total of 25 wild birds were infected and died, 7 domestic poultry were infected and died, and 12 were culled.
25. Two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one in poultry have been reported in Belgium.
On January 9, Belgium reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one outbreak in poultry in the Walloon Region and another location. Two wild birds died after infection, 11,000 poultry were infected, 40 died, and 57,000 were culled.
26. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Colombia.
On January 5, Colombia reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Sucre Department, with one wild bird infected and 35 culled.
Other Animal Epidemics
1. Five Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease in Poland
On January 5 and 8, Poland reported five outbreaks of Newcastle disease in three regions, including the Masovian Voivodeship, resulting in 664,000 infected poultry, 4,472 deaths, and the culling of 1.469 million birds.
2. Four Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease in Spain
On January 7, Spain reported four outbreaks of Newcastle disease in the Valencian Community, resulting in 28,000 infected poultry, 27,000 deaths, and the culling of 53,000 birds.
3. One outbreak of swine fever reported in Brazil
On January 5, Brazil reported an outbreak of classical swine fever in Piauí State, with 56 domestic pigs infected and 32 deaths.
4. 167 Outbreaks of Swine Fever Reported in Japan
On January 9, Japan reported 167 outbreaks of swine fever in wild boars across eight areas, including Miyazaki Prefecture, with 466 infected animals, 98 deaths, and 368 culled.
5. Six Outbreaks of Bluetongue Virus Serotype 3 in Poland
On January 5 and 8, Poland reported six outbreaks of Bluetongue virus serotype 3 in three regions, including the Greater Poland Voivodeship, affecting 12 cattle.
6. Seven Outbreaks of Bluetongue Virus Serotype 3 in the United Kingdom
On January 5 and 9, the United Kingdom reported seven outbreaks of Bluetongue serotype 3 in England and two other regions, resulting in 15 infected cattle and the culling of one animal.
7. Fifteen Bluetongue Outbreaks in Tunisia
On January 6, Tunisia reported 15 outbreaks of bluetongue disease—four of serotype 8 and 11 of serotype 5—in five locations, including El Yanah Governorate, with 56 sheep infected and 15 deaths.
8. Two Outbreaks of New World Screw-Worm Fly Infestation in Mexico
On January 8, Mexico reported two outbreaks of New World screw-worm myiasis in Nuevo León and another locality, affecting two cattle.
9. Two outbreaks of peste des petits ruminants reported in Croatia
On January 5 and 9, Croatia reported two outbreaks of peste des petits ruminants in Zadar County and another locality, involving two sheep and three goats; a total of 102 animals were culled.
10. One outbreak of pseudorabies has occurred in Hungary.
On January 6, Hungary reported an outbreak of pseudorabies in Somogy County, with 65 domestic pigs infected.
11. One outbreak of lumpy skin disease has occurred in France.
On January 5, France reported an outbreak of lumpy skin disease in the Ariège department of the Pyrénées region, with one bovine case confirmed.
12. Six Outbreaks of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Eswatini
On January 7, Eswatini reported six outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease—three involving the SAT1 serotype and three involving the SAT2 serotype—in two districts, including Manzini, with 57 cattle infected.
