African swine fever
1. Two outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs and one in wild boars have been reported in Moldova.
On December 12 and 16, Moldova reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs and one in wild pigs in the Chisinau district and another location. Two domestic pigs were infected and died, 14 were culled, and one wild pig was infected and died.
2. Twenty Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Hungary
On December 15, Hungary reported 20 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs across four regions, including Pest County, resulting in the infection and death of 22 wild pigs.
3. Nine Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Germany
On December 15, Germany reported nine outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar in the state of Hesse, resulting in the death of nine infected animals.
4. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs has been reported in Greece.
On December 15, Greece reported an outbreak of African swine fever in wild boars in the Prefecture of Drama, resulting in the death of one infected wild boar.
5. One outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs has occurred in South Korea.
On December 12, South Korea reported an outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs in South Chungcheong Province, with 13 infected pigs, 1 death, and 455 pigs culled.
6. Three Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Spain
On December 16 and 18, Spain reported three outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, resulting in the infection and death of 11 wild boar.
7. Seven Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Croatia
On December 16, Croatia reported seven outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar in Osijek-Baranja County, resulting in the death of eight infected animals.
8. Bulgaria Reports 93 Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars
On December 16, Bulgaria reported 93 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs across seven regions, including Burgas Province, resulting in the infection and death of 121 wild pigs.
9. Three Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Estonia
On December 18, Estonia reported three outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in three locations, including Valga County, resulting in the infection and death of four wild pigs.
10. Two Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars in Bosnia and Herzegovina
On December 19, Bosnia and Herzegovina reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, resulting in the death of six infected animals.
11. Two Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Domestic Pigs Reported in Serbia
On December 19, Serbia reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs in Bor District and another locality, resulting in infection of two pigs, the death of one, and the culling of 21.
12. Romania Reports 24 Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars and 5 in Domestic Pigs
On December 19, Romania reported 24 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars and 5 in domestic pigs across six counties, including Călărași County. A total of 36 wild boars were infected and died, 30,000 domestic pigs were infected, 365 died, and 33,000 were culled.
Avian influenza
1. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one in poultry have been reported in Portugal.
On December 15, Portugal reported one outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one in poultry in the Faro District and another location, resulting in the infection and death of one wild bird and 1,180 poultry.
2. Seven Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Germany
On December 15, 16, and 19, Germany reported seven outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in six regions, including Saxony, resulting in 1,631 infected birds, 1,197 deaths, and the culling of 162,000 birds.
3. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Namibia.
On December 15, Namibia reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Karasburg District, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
4. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Luxembourg.
On December 15, Luxembourg reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza subtype H5N1 in wild birds in the Grevenmacher District, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
5. Two Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Norway
On December 15 and 16, Norway reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the city of Oslo, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
6. Five Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Lithuania
On December 15 and 19, Lithuania reported five outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in three locations, including Panevėžys County, resulting in the infection and death of 16 wild birds.
7. Six outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and one in domestic poultry have been reported in Sweden.
On December 16 and 19, Sweden reported six outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one outbreak in domestic poultry in five locations, including the city of Ängelholm. A total of eight wild birds were infected and died, 128 domestic poultry were infected and died, and 40,000 birds were culled.
8. Eight outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and four in poultry have been reported in Poland.
On December 16, 17, and 19, Poland reported eight outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and four in poultry across four regions, including the Masovian Voivodeship. A total of 18 wild birds were infected and died, while 157,000 poultry were infected, with 4,797 deaths.
9. Five Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in South Korea
On December 16, South Korea reported five outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Gyeonggi Province and two other regions, resulting in 797 infected birds, 416 deaths, and the culling of 580,000 birds.
10. Seven outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry have occurred in France.
On December 16 and 18, France reported seven outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in four areas, including the Vendée department in the Pays de la Loire region, resulting in the infection and death of 541 birds and the culling of 148.
11. Thirty-eight outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds have been reported in Belgium.
On December 16, Belgium reported 38 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds across three regions, including the Flemish Region, resulting in the infection and death of 39 wild birds.
12. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in the Czech Republic
On December 16, the Czech Republic reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two regions, including the Karlovy Vary Region. A total of 61 wild and free-range poultry were infected, 16 died, and 67 were culled.
13. A total of 132 wild bird and 2 domestic poultry outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in the United Kingdom.
On December 16 and 19, the United Kingdom reported 132 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 2 outbreaks in domestic poultry across four regions, including England. A total of 182 wild and free-range domestic birds were infected, with 178 deaths; 9,007 domestic poultry were infected, with 63 deaths.
14. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Denmark.
On December 18, Denmark reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the Municipality of Mariagerfjord, resulting in the infection and death of seven poultry and the culling of 19 birds.
15. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Hungary.
On December 18, Hungary reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Hajdú-Bihar County, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
16. Seven outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and four in poultry have been reported in Italy.
On December 19, Italy reported seven outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and four in poultry across three regions, including Lombardy. A total of 17 wild birds were infected and died, 261,000 poultry were infected with 183 deaths, and 279,000 birds were culled.
17. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Colombia
On December 19, Colombia reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Sucre Department, affecting 186 wild and free-range poultry, resulting in 170 deaths and the culling of 122 birds.
18. Five Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Latvia
On December 19, Latvia reported five outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two locations, including the city of Semigallia, resulting in the infection and death of 39 wild birds.
19. Seven Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Spain
On December 19, Spain reported seven outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two regions, including the Community of Madrid, resulting in the infection and death of 67 wild birds.
20. Eleven outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds have been reported in the Netherlands.
On December 19, the Netherlands reported 11 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds across four regions, including South Holland Province, resulting in the infection and death of 15 wild birds.
21. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Estonia
On December 19, Estonia reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Tartu County and another locality, resulting in infection in 33 wild and free-range poultry, with 32 deaths and 10 birds culled.
22. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Slovenia
On December 19, Slovenia reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Podravje Region, resulting in the death of five infected wild birds.
23. Four Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Ireland
On December 19, Ireland reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in three locations, including County Roscommon, resulting in the infection and death of seven wild birds.
24. Three Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Austria
On December 19, Austria reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the state of Vorarlberg, resulting in the death of three infected wild birds.
Other Animal Epidemics
1. One outbreak of lumpy skin disease has occurred in France.
On December 14, France reported an outbreak of lumpy skin disease in the Haute-Garonne department of the Occitanie region, with one bovine case confirmed.
2. Twenty-three rabies outbreaks reported in Thailand
On December 15, Thailand reported 23 rabies outbreaks in six provinces, including Yasothon, resulting in the deaths of 23 domestic dogs.
3. One rabies outbreak reported in Kazakhstan
On December 17, Kazakhstan reported an outbreak of rabies in Kostanay Region, resulting in the death of a domestic dog.
4. Two Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease in Peru
On December 15, Peru reported two outbreaks of Newcastle disease in Lima Province and another region, resulting in infection among 31 poultry.
5. Six Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease in Poland
On December 15 and 18, Poland reported six outbreaks of Newcastle disease in two regions, including the Greater Poland Voivodeship, resulting in infection of 259,000 poultry, 7,182 deaths, and the culling of 86,000 birds.
6. One outbreak of Newcastle disease has occurred in Slovakia.
On December 17, Slovakia reported an outbreak of Newcastle disease in Prešov Region, with 26 poultry infected, 22 deaths, and 84 birds culled.
7. One outbreak of peste des petits ruminants has occurred in Croatia.
On December 15, Croatia reported an outbreak of peste des petits ruminants in Split-Dalmatia County, affecting 14 sheep.
8. Thirty-One Outbreaks of Bluetongue Disease in the United Kingdom
On December 15 and 19, the United Kingdom reported 30 outbreaks of serotype 3 and 1 outbreak of serotype 8 of bluetongue disease in England and two other regions, totaling 31 outbreaks and 189 infected cattle.
9. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 3 has occurred in Hungary.
On December 15, Hungary reported an outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 3 in Baranya County, with one bovine case confirmed.
10. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 3 reported in Bulgaria
On December 16, Bulgaria reported an outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 3 in Smolyan Province, with two sheep infected.
11. Ten Outbreaks of Bluetongue Serotype 5 in Italy
On December 18, Italy reported 10 outbreaks of Bluetongue serotype 5 in the Sardinia Region, affecting 259 sheep and goats and resulting in 167 deaths.
12. Two Outbreaks of Equine Infectious Anemia in Germany
On December 16, Germany reported two outbreaks of equine infectious anemia in Baden-Württemberg and another region, resulting in the culling of two infected horses.
13. Two Outbreaks of Equine Infectious Anemia in Chile
On December 17, Chile reported two outbreaks of equine infectious anemia in the Coquimbo Region, resulting in the culling of two infected horses.
14. One case of pseudorabies outbreak in France
On December 19, France reported an outbreak of pseudorabies in wild boars in the Cher department of the Centre-Val de Loire region, with three wild boars infected.
15. Twenty-seven outbreaks of SAT1 foot-and-mouth disease have occurred in Eswatini.
On December 15, Eswatini reported 27 outbreaks of SAT1 foot-and-mouth disease in the Lubombo District, affecting 4,052 cattle.
16. 143 Outbreaks of SAT2 Foot-and-Mouth Disease Reported in South Africa
On December 15, South Africa reported 143 outbreaks of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Type O in the Free State Province, affecting 6,344 cattle.
17. One outbreak of O-type foot-and-mouth disease has occurred in Mongolia.
On December 18, Mongolia reported an outbreak of O-type foot-and-mouth disease in Sukhbaatar Province, affecting four sheep.
