African swine fever
1. Thirteen Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Hungary
On December 22, Hungary reported 13 cases of African swine fever in wild boars across four regions, including Pest County, resulting in the death of 13 infected animals.
2. Poland Reports 135 Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars
On December 23 and 24, Poland reported 135 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars across eight regions, including Podlaskie Province, resulting in the infection and death of 230 wild boars.
3. Nineteen Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Bulgaria
On December 23, Bulgaria reported 19 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs across seven regions, including Burgas Province, resulting in the infection and death of 19 wild pigs.
4. Two Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars in Greece
On December 23, Greece reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars in the Prefecture of Drama, resulting in the death of two infected animals.
5. Three Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Domestic Pigs Reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina
On December 23, Bosnia and Herzegovina reported three outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs in the Republika Srpska, with six infected pigs, two deaths, and 35 pigs culled.
6. Three Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Estonia
On December 24, Estonia reported three outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in Tartu County and two other locations, resulting in the death of three infected wild pigs.
7. Nine Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Croatia
On December 24, Croatia reported nine outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boar in Osijek-Baranja County, resulting in the infection and death of 12 wild boar.
8. Two Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Moldova
On December 24, Moldova reported two outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs in two locations, including the Rezina District, resulting in the infection and death of four wild pigs.
Avian influenza
1. Seventeen wild bird and 24 domestic poultry outbreaks of the H5N1 subtype of highly pathogenic avian influenza have been reported in the United States.
On December 22, the United States reported 17 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 24 outbreaks in poultry across eight locations, including Wisconsin. A total of 471 wild and free-range poultry were infected and died, 227 were culled, and 314,000 poultry were also culled.
2. Three Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Canada
On December 22, Canada reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in three regions, including British Columbia, resulting in the infection and death of 2,131 birds and the culling of 282,000 birds.
3. Germany has reported 402 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 3 outbreaks in poultry.
On December 22, Germany reported 402 outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and 3 outbreaks in poultry across 12 regions, including the State of Berlin. A total of 577 wild and free-range poultry were infected, with 433 deaths, 159 culls, and 81 poultry deaths due to infection; an additional 99,000 poultry were culled.
4. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in the United Kingdom.
On December 22, the United Kingdom reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Scotland, with 45,000 birds infected and 6,500 deaths.
5. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Hungary.
On December 22, Hungary reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Fejér County, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
6. Four outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and one in domestic poultry have been reported in Poland.
On December 22 and 23, Poland reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one outbreak in poultry in four regions, including the Masovian Voivodeship. A total of seven wild birds were infected and died, while 172,000 poultry were infected, with 5,237 deaths.
7. Seventeen Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Sweden
On December 22 and 23, Sweden reported 17 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds across seven locations, including the city of Karlshamn, resulting in the infection and death of 17 wild birds.
8. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Finland
On December 22, Finland reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two regions, including the Province of Western Finland, resulting in the death of two infected wild birds.
9. One outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry and nine outbreaks in wild birds have been reported in the Netherlands.
On December 22 and 23, the Netherlands reported one outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and nine outbreaks in wild birds across four regions, including Limburg Province. A total of 20 poultry were infected, 10 died, 20,000 were culled, and 14 wild birds were infected and died.
10. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Denmark
On December 22 and 23, Denmark reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two locations, including the Municipality of Frederikshavn, resulting in the infection and death of 23 wild and free-range poultry.
11. Two outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and one in poultry have been reported in the Czech Republic.
On December 22, the Czech Republic reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one outbreak in domestic poultry in three regions, including the Hradec Králové Region. A total of 11 wild and free-range domestic birds were infected, four died, 56 were culled, and 300 domestic birds were infected and subsequently died.
12. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Portugal
On December 22, Portugal reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in two locations, including the Aveiro District, resulting in the death of two infected wild birds.
13. Two Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Japan
On December 23 and 24, Japan reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in Hyogo Prefecture and another locality, resulting in the infection and death of 57 birds and the culling of 242,000 birds.
14. Two Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Nigeria
On December 23, Nigeria reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in two regions, including Plateau State, resulting in 3,174 infected birds, 734 deaths, and the culling of 2,440 birds.
15. Four outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and five in poultry have been reported in Italy.
On December 23, Italy reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and five in poultry across four regions, including Tuscany. Six wild birds were infected and died, 70,000 poultry were infected, 220 died, and 26,000 were culled.
16. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has occurred in Brazil.
On December 24, Brazil reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Mato Grosso state, with 21 wild and free-range poultry infected, 16 deaths, and 154 birds culled.
17. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Belgium.
On December 24, Belgium reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in the Flemish Region, resulting in the infection and death of 214 birds and the culling of 44,000.
18. Four Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Norway
On December 24, Norway reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in four locations, including Trøndelag County, resulting in the death of four infected wild birds.
Other Animal Epidemics
1. Four outbreaks of nodular dermatosis have occurred in France.
On December 22, France reported four outbreaks of lumpy skin disease in three areas, including the Haute-Garonne department in the Occitanie region, with four cattle infected.
2. One outbreak of peste des petits ruminants has occurred in Croatia.
On December 22, Croatia reported an outbreak of peste des petits ruminants in Split-Dalmatia County, with four sheep infected and 26 slaughtered.
3. One West Nile fever outbreak reported in France
On December 22, France reported an outbreak of West Nile fever in the Vaucluse department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, with one horse infected.
4. One outbreak of heartwater disease has occurred in Botswana.
On December 22, Botswana reported an outbreak of cardiac disease in the Kweneng District, resulting in the deaths of four wild springboks.
5. One Anthrax Outbreak in Bosnia and Herzegovina
On December 22, Bosnia and Herzegovina reported an anthrax outbreak in the Republika Srpska, resulting in the death of one infected cow.
6. One outbreak of Trypanosomiasis in Uruguay
On December 22, Uruguay reported an outbreak of trypanosomiasis in Salto Department, resulting in the death of a domestic dog.
7. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 8 reported in Bulgaria
On December 22, Bulgaria reported an outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 8 in Smolyan Province, with two sheep infected.
8. Fifteen Bluetongue Outbreaks in Italy
On December 22, Italy reported 15 outbreaks of bluetongue disease—14 of serotype 8 and 1 of serotype 4—in two regions, including Trentino-Alto Adige, with 32 cattle infected.
9. Seven Outbreaks of Theileriosis in Armenia
On December 23, Armenia reported seven outbreaks of piroplasmosis in four regions, including Aragatsotn Province, resulting in the infection and death of eight sheep.
10. One case of pseudorabies outbreak in France
On December 23, France reported an outbreak of pseudorabies in the Aisne department of the Hauts-de-France region, with one wild boar infected.
11. Two Outbreaks of Equine Infectious Anemia in Chile
On December 24, Chile reported two outbreaks of equine infectious anemia in the Coquimbo Region, resulting in the culling of two infected horses.
12. Two Outbreaks of Newcastle Disease in Poland
On December 24, Poland reported two outbreaks of Newcastle disease in Greater Poland Province and another region, resulting in 18,000 infected poultry, 3,096 deaths, and the culling of 15,000 birds.
13. One outbreak of SAT1 foot-and-mouth disease has occurred in Eswatini.
On December 23, Eswatini reported an outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Type SAT1 in the Lubombo District, affecting 228 cattle.
