African swine fever
1. Thirteen Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Hungary
On December 27, Hungary reported 13 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs across four regions, including Pest County, resulting in the infection and death of 13 wild pigs.
2. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs reported in Spain
On December 27, Spain reported an outbreak of African swine fever in wild boar in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, with two infected wild boars dying.
3. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs has been reported in Ukraine.
On December 27, Ukraine reported an outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs in Chernivtsi Oblast, resulting in the death of three infected wild pigs.
4. One outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina
On December 30, Bosnia and Herzegovina reported an outbreak of African swine fever in the Republika Srpska, with four domestic pigs infected and 29 culled.
5. Three Outbreaks of African Swine Fever in Wild Boars Reported in Estonia
On December 31, Estonia reported three outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars in Rapla County, resulting in the death of five infected animals.
6. One outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs reported in Moldova
On December 31, Moldova reported an outbreak of African swine fever in wild pigs in the Hincesti District, resulting in the infection and death of three wild pigs.
7. Five outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and one in domestic pigs have been reported in Serbia.
On December 31, Serbia reported five outbreaks of African swine fever in wild pigs and one in domestic pigs across three regions, including the West Bačka District, resulting in the deaths of 95 wild pigs and 9 domestic pigs, with an additional 10 domestic pigs culled.
Avian influenza
1. Four outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry and 16 in wild birds have been reported in the United Kingdom.
On December 27, the United Kingdom reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry and 16 in wild birds in England, with 4,252 poultry infected, 308 deaths, and 24 wild and free-range poultry infected and dead.
2. Five Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Canada
On December 27, Canada reported five outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in five regions, including British Columbia, resulting in the infection and death of 4,213 birds and the culling of 109,000.
3. Two Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Colombia
On December 27, Colombia reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in Sucre Department and another locality, resulting in 49 infected wild birds, 42 deaths, and the culling of 69 birds.
4. Fifteen Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic H5N1 Avian Influenza in Wild Birds Reported in Japan
On December 27, Japan reported 15 outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds across six prefectures, including Kagoshima, resulting in the infection and death of 19 wild birds.
5. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one in poultry have been reported in the Czech Republic.
On December 27, the Czech Republic reported one outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one in domestic poultry in the Hradec Králové Region, resulting in the infection and death of 39 wild and free-range poultry, the culling of 10 birds, and the infection and death of 40 additional poultry.
6. Two Outbreaks of H5N1 Subtype Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Poultry Reported in Germany
On December 27, Germany reported two outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in North Rhine-Westphalia, resulting in the infection and death of 70 birds and the culling of 16,000.
7. Four outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and six in poultry have been reported in Poland.
On December 30 and 31, Poland reported four outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and six in poultry across five regions, including Opole Voivodeship. Six wild birds were infected and died, 1.124 million poultry were infected, 27,000 died, and 94,000 were culled.
8. Three outbreaks of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and four in poultry have been reported in the Netherlands.
On December 27 and 30, the Netherlands reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and four outbreaks in poultry in four regions, including Limburg Province. Three wild birds were infected and died, 362 poultry were infected with 112 deaths, and 429,000 birds were culled.
9. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one in poultry have been reported in Portugal.
On December 27, Portugal reported one outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds and one in poultry in the municipality of Real and another location. One wild bird was infected and died, 20,000 poultry were infected, 2,954 died, and 59,000 were culled.
10. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in France.
On December 27, France reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in the Vendée department of the Pays de la Loire region, resulting in the infection and death of multiple birds and the culling of 180,000 birds.
11. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Finland.
On December 30, Finland reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the Southwest Finland region, resulting in the death of one infected wild bird.
12. One outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and two outbreaks in poultry have been reported in Sweden.
On December 30, Sweden reported one outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild birds and two outbreaks in poultry in Linköping and another locality. Two wild birds were infected and died, 234 poultry were infected and died, and 50,000 poultry were culled.
13. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry has occurred in Denmark.
On December 30, Denmark reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in poultry in the Lemvig Municipality, resulting in the infection and death of 67 birds and the culling of 457 others.
14. One outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds has been reported in Latvia.
On December 31, Latvia reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in wild birds in the city of Kuzmi, resulting in the infection and death of 17 wild and free-range poultry, and the culling of 33 birds.
Other Animal Epidemics
1. Six outbreaks of lumpy skin disease have occurred in Tunisia.
On December 26, Tunisia reported six outbreaks of lumpy skin disease in three districts, including the Béja Governorate, affecting 21 cattle.
2. One outbreak of swine brucellosis has occurred in France.
On December 30, France reported an outbreak of swine brucellosis in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, resulting in the infection and subsequent slaughter of one sheep.
3. Four Outbreaks of West Nile Fever in Belgium
On December 27, Belgium reported four cases of West Nile virus infection in the Flemish Region, with four wild birds infected and two deaths.
4. Thirteen Outbreaks of Bluetongue Serotype 3 in the United Kingdom
On December 27, the United Kingdom reported 13 outbreaks of Bluetongue serotype 3 in England and two other regions, affecting 40 cattle.
5. Sixteen Outbreaks of Bluetongue Virus Serotype 8 in Germany
On December 27, Germany reported 16 outbreaks of Bluetongue disease serotype 8 in Baden-Württemberg, affecting 20 cattle.
6. Thirty-two outbreaks of Bluetongue Serotype 3 reported in Poland
On December 30 and 31, Poland reported 32 outbreaks of Bluetongue serotype 3 in four regions, including the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, affecting 89 cattle and 2 sheep.
7. One outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 3 has occurred in Lithuania.
On December 30, Lithuania reported an outbreak of Bluetongue serotype 3 in Telšiai County, with five cattle infected.
8. Four Newcastle Disease Outbreaks in Poland
On December 30, Poland reported four outbreaks of Newcastle disease in two regions, including the Greater Poland Voivodeship, resulting in 970,000 infected poultry, 26,000 deaths, and the culling of 13,000 birds.
9. One outbreak of bovine viral diarrhea has occurred in Austria.
On December 31, Austria reported an outbreak of bovine viral diarrhea in Lower Austria, with three cattle infected.
10. Eight Outbreaks of O-Type Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Tunisia
On December 27, Tunisia reported eight outbreaks of O-type foot-and-mouth disease in five locations, including the Sousse Governorate, affecting 32 cattle.
11. Twelve Outbreaks of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in Lebanon
On December 30, Lebanon reported 12 outbreaks of undetermined foot-and-mouth disease in two districts, including the Baalbek Governorate, affecting 1,894 cattle and resulting in 41 deaths.
